What happens if I fail a paper?

Short answer

You re-attempt it in a later cycle. Almost every programme allows this, and there is usually a fee.

Re-attempt rules and fees vary. What matters more is the maximum period allowed to complete the programme — commonly four years for a two-year MBA.

Failing a paper is ordinary and recoverable. Running out of the maximum period is not.

What to check

  • Ask the re-attempt fee and how often re-examinations are held.
  • Ask what the maximum permitted period is for your programme.
